About Signe
Signe Skouenby
Examined and certified sexologist and couples therapist, trained social counsellor. More than 15 years of professional experience with people and relationships – and a warm, curious and respectful approach to what weighs on you.

Meet Signe
You do not have to be afraid of being too much with me.
My way of working is both gentle and direct. I listen, ask questions and help you find words for what can be hard to say. You do not need to wrap your story up neatly or have your feelings under control before you come. There is room for seriousness, silence and humour – and for what you would like more of.
Through the years I have met people and families in difficult and complex life situations. That experience shapes the way I meet you: we start with you and what you want to change.
You can read more about what I offer on the pages about prices and contact.
Experience
My professional background
From social counsellor and family worker to therapist, sexologist and couples therapist – you find the full picture in the section about my experience and training further down.
My professional path began as a social counsellor working with children, young people and families. Since my therapy training in 2011 I have had clients in therapy and have continuously furthered my training in systemic therapy, mentalization, trauma-informed work, sexology and couples therapy. I work systemically, relationally, mentalization-based and trauma-informed – curious, warm and without preconceived conclusions.
The clinical overview and the full list of training are at the bottom of this page.
Trauma work
Room for what you carry
Through my work with people and families in crisis, I have met many who have experiences with violence, sexual abuse, addiction and neglect. Together with my further training in trauma work, systemic therapy and mentalization, that experience is an important part of my professional background.
Maybe you learned early on to override your own needs, stay on guard or take responsibility for others. Maybe you struggle with trust, boundaries, shame or closeness. Together we explore what makes sense in your particular story, without assuming in advance how your experiences have affected you.
You do not need to tell everything or see all the connections before you come. We start in your everyday life and what you wish help with, at a pace where you can take part.
I also offer conversations about how addiction has affected you and your relationships – in your own life or as a relative. These conversations are not a form of substance-abuse treatment.

My approach
How I work
Together we explore what makes sense for you or the two of you, and how it can be used in everyday life. I regularly ask whether you feel understood and whether our conversations help. Please speak up if something does not quite land.

Current focus
Relationships and sexuality
My work with relationships and sexuality builds on many years of experience with people, families and therapeutic conversations. When we talk about sex, desire and closeness, we can also explore attachment, earlier experiences, shame, boundaries and the ways you have learned to protect yourself. We stay curious about what affects you, and what can create more safety, freedom and connection.
There is room for all of it: mismatched desire, feeling far away from your desire, intimacy, performance pressure, sexual communication, embodiment and sexuality after difficult experiences. We work without blame and without making either of you wrong – with focus on the pattern you are caught in and the longings behind it.

Professional safety
Safe and professional framework
I am bound by professional confidentiality and treat what you share with care and respect.
I receive supervision on my therapeutic work. It gives me professional sparring and the chance to reflect continuously on my practice. Supervision is part of my professional responsibility and contributes quality and care to the work we do together.
You are always welcome to ask about the framework of our conversations. It matters to me that you feel safe sharing what is personal and vulnerable.
My values
Room for everything that is you
Humour and warmth
Therapy does not have to feel heavy all the way through. There is room for humour, lightness and the moments when something suddenly makes sense.
Silence and time
Sometimes the most important thing is to pause and let the words land. There is room for silence.
Sexuality and body
Sexuality, body and desire are natural parts of life. The conversation can hold what is hard to say anywhere else.
What is hard to say
What weighs on you the most is often what is hardest to put into words. Here there is room for it.
